My Trip to Oraibi Arizona

I was fortunate enough to be invited to Oriabi by Robert Crying Redbear, a Cree Native American who owns a guild there.
Out of respect for there wishes, I took no pictures while I was in Oraibi, "the third mesa"
I found a detailed history of the Hopi Tribe in Oraibi here:  http://ghosttowns.com/states/az/oraibi.html  It is short and detailed.

Oriabi is about in the center of the Navajo Nation which takes up a significant portion of North eastern Arizona.
It is about an 1.5 hours north of Winslow Arizona, home of many Hopi and Navajo trading post.

Here are some pictures taken of scenes in the Navajo Nation on route 87.  North of Winslow.
Pictures may be clicked to enlarge.

The Navajo Nation                              The Navajo Nation

The Navajo Nation                              The Navajo Nation

If you Look you can see houses and such scattered around the flatlands.  I even saw a Functional tee pee, unfortunately I missed the photo

Here are pictures From the Hopi Nation on the second mesa, the village of "Kykotsmovi"
The Hopi that live here left the main tribe in Oraibi years ago.  Favoring the Electricity and Running water the White man offered.
The Hopi in Oraibi do not have these to this day.

The Hopi Nation                              The Hopi Nation

The first picture shows road in and you can see the Navajo nation of in the distance, The second is turned around 180 degrees.
This road cut into the side of the mesa is the only path up I saw.  Imagine trying to overtake this mesa with conventional weapons.  you can see out in every direction for hundreds of miles.  They were never overtaken
The Hopi Nation was not discovered until around 1880.  They have lived in this same location over 1100 years.  The longest established functional village in North American.

Here are the items i purchased on the trip.  Now that i have a contact and friend who lives there I intend on doing much more business with the Hopi Nation.  Ed Hayden
